Resveratrol – A Powerful Anti-Aging Ingredient

Resveratrol is an ingredient found in grapes, blueberries, cranberries, mulberries, raspberries, and peanuts. One if it’s applications is as an antibiotic to combat bacterial and fungal infections. It also can help prevent damage to the nervous system from free radicals, as it is one of the few nutrients that can move from the bloodstream into the brain.

The science on resveratrol as an anti-aging supplement is new, but there are compelling findings, which indicate that adding this to your regimen will help you reverse the process by which your body shows the impact of time. Initial trials showed that resveratrol extended the lives of fruit flies and reduced signs of aging in mice. Long-term studies on humans are underway.

The nutrient SIRT1 helps to ensure that the only gene switches that activate in particular cells are ones that promote normal, healthy cell function. It also helps to fix damage to DNA resulting from such external stressors as inflammation, germs, ultraviolet radiation, free radicals and toxins. If you don't have enough SIRT1, your cells can undergo significant damage while the SIRT1 is repairing your DNA.

If you are aging more rapidly than you would like, one culprit is a deficiency in SIRT1. Another is that your SIRT1 is too busy repairing DNA to keep an eye on those gene switches. The nutrient resveratrol can optimally activate your body's SIRT1, which means it will be in more abundant supply and can spend more time managing your gene switches.

A Powerful Anti-Aging IngredientAnother way that resveratrol fights aging is by helping the neuro-endocrine system function more efficiently, leading to increased production of estrogen. This is particularly important for women as they age, and the effects of menopause take away their ability to generate estrogen. When the neuro-endocrine system begin to deteriorate, aging accelerates – a problem that resveratrol can help alleviate.

Recommended adult dosage for resveratrol will vary depending on your purpose. Are you looking to establish a long-term resveratrol regimen to stave off the signs of aging that have not yet appeared? Or are you looking at a more aggressive approach to combat the signs that have already began to manifest themselves? A therapeutic regimen should range between one and ten milligrams per day; if you are looking to treat existing symptoms, you can go as high as 100 milligrams each day.

As with any new health regimen, you'll want to talk with your doctor before starting a course of care. While there are no established risks associated with resveratrol, you'll definitely want to get your physician's go-ahead before beginning any program.
